Cul-de-sac obliteration can therefore be part of a frozen pelvis, but the terms are not interchangeable.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d37e14e elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"d37e14e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">What Symptoms Can Cul-de-Sac Endometriosis Cause?<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-83b0878 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"83b0878\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Symptoms vary depending on the location and extent of disease. Some people may experience:<\/p><ul><li>Severe menstrual pain<\/li><li>Chronic pelvic pain<\/li><li>Deep pain during or after sex<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/nygse.com\/ibs-and-endometriosis-symptoms\/\">Painful bowel movements<\/a><\/li><li>Rectal pain, particularly around menstruation<\/li><li>Infertility<\/li><\/ul><p>These symptoms are not specific to cul-de-sac obliteration. ESHRE recommends considering endometriosis in people with symptoms including dysmenorrhea, deep dyspareunia, dyschezia, urinary symptoms, fatigue, and infertility. <a href=\"#references\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b10ac51 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"b10ac51\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Ultrasound and MRI Can Help Evaluate the Cul-de-Sac<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f9fa4ba elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"f9fa4ba\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Specialized pelvic ultrasound and MRI can help identify signs of deep endometriosis and changes in pelvic anatomy.<\/p><p>MRI findings associated with posterior cul-de-sac obliteration can include <strong>tethering of the rectum toward the uterus, fibrotic tissue, adhesions, and changes involving the posterior uterus and surrounding structures<\/strong>. In one study of women with histologically confirmed endometriosis, MRI had a mean accuracy of 71.9% for diagnosing posterior cul-de-sac obliteration. <a href=\"#references\"><sup>[2]<\/sup><\/a><\/p><p>Imaging can provide valuable information for diagnosis and surgical planning, although imaging findings must be interpreted within the patient&#8217;s overall clinical picture. ESHRE recommends ultrasound or MRI as part of the diagnostic work-up for suspected endometriosis. <a href=\"#references\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-2b9b067 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"2b9b067\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Treatment Depends on Symptoms and Disease Extent<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b05102b elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b05102b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>An obliterated cul-de-sac does <strong>not automatically mean that surgery is necessary.<\/strong><\/p><p>Treatment depends on symptoms, fertility goals, imaging findings, previous treatment, and the extent of endometriosis.<\/p><p>When surgery is appropriate, restoring normal anatomy can be technically complex because the rectum, ureters, pelvic nerves, and other structures may be close to the disease.
