Adhesions can restrict normal ovarian mobility and change the position of pelvic structures. <a href=\"#references\"><sup>[1][3]<\/sup><\/a><\/p><p>When endometriosis and adhesions involve the ovaries and surrounding tissues, the ovaries may become pulled toward the center of the pelvis and fixed behind the uterus.<\/p><p>This can create the kissing ovaries appearance.<\/p><p>The finding has been associated with more extensive pelvic endometriosis and adhesive disease. An ovary that does not move freely may suggest adhesions. <a href=\"#references\"><sup>[3]<\/sup><\/a><\/p><p>Ultrasound may also identify ovarian endometriomas and certain forms of deep endometriosis. MRI can provide additional information about the location and extent of disease. <a href=\"#references\"><sup>[1][4]<\/sup><\/a><\/p><p>Neither ultrasound nor MRI, however, identifies every form of endometriosis. Normal imaging does not completely exclude the disease. <a href=\"#references\"><sup>[1][4]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b94c45e elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"b94c45e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Do Kissing Ovaries Mean You Have Endometriosis?<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-eff36f4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"eff36f4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Not necessarily.<\/p><p>Kissing ovaries are associated with endometriosis, but they are <strong>not a diagnosis by themselves<\/strong>. <a href=\"#references\"><sup>[2]<\/sup><\/a> Pelvic adhesions can also develop after pelvic surgery, infection, or other inflammatory conditions.<\/p><p>The finding becomes more meaningful when it occurs alongside other signs associated with endometriosis, such as endometriomas, <a href=\"https:\/\/nygse.com\/departments\/frozen-pelvis\/\">fixed pelvic organs<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/nygse.com\/departments\/deep-infiltrating-endometriosis-die\/\">deep endometriosis<\/a>, or an <a href=\"https:\/\/nygse.com\/obliterated-cul-de-sac-endometriosis\/\">obliterated pouch of Douglas<\/a>.<\/p><p>Symptoms also provide important context. These may include painful periods, chronic pelvic pain, pain during sex, painful bowel movements, or difficulty becoming pregnant.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d61d104 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"d61d104\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Kissing Ovaries and Infertility<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5a37235 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"5a37235\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Kissing ovaries do not automatically mean that a patient will have difficulty becoming pregnant. However, the underlying endometriosis or adhesions responsible for the finding may affect ovarian and fallopian tube anatomy. Some patients may also have ovarian endometriomas or other factors that influence fertility. <a href=\"#references\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a><\/p><p>For patients trying to become pregnant, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/nygse.com\/endometriosis-fertility-index\/\">fertility assessment<\/a> should consider the complete clinical picture rather than the position of the ovaries alone.<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6b5c2bb elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"6b5c2bb\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Do Kissing Ovaries Need Surgery?<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-65eb2a5 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"65eb2a5\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Not necessarily.<\/p><p>An imaging finding alone is not a reason for surgery. Treatment depends on symptoms, the suspected extent of disease, fertility goals, previous treatment, imaging findings, and the patient&#8217;s individual circumstances. <a href=\"#references\"><sup>[1][4]<\/sup><\/a><\/p><p>For some patients, medical management or observation may be appropriate. For others with significant pain, infertility concerns, endometriomas, or complex adhesive disease, surgical evaluation may be considered.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0135b56 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"0135b56\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">When Kissing Ovaries Deserve Further Evaluation<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e8fd448 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"e8fd448\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Kissing ovaries can be an important clue that adhesions have altered normal pelvic anatomy.<\/p><p>When the finding occurs alongside pelvic pain, painful periods, painful bowel movements, infertility, endometriomas, or other signs of endometriosis, further evaluation may be appropriate.<\/p><p>At <a
