Decorated veteran and seasoned healthcare executive brings 35 years of leadership experience to national women’s health practice
BABYLON, NEW YORK — New York Gynecology Surgery & Endometriosis (NYGSE) is pleased to announce the appointment of John A. McMurray as President and Chief Executive Officer. A retired U.S. Army Colonel with more than 35 years of healthcare leadership across military and civilian systems, John’s appointment reflects the organization’s commitment to operational excellence, continued growth, and expanding access to world-class women’s healthcare.
Most recently, John served as Chief Operating Officer of Good Samaritan University Hospital, the 458-bed flagship of Catholic Health in Suffolk County, New York, where he spent more than nine years leading one of the most significant periods of growth and modernization in the hospital’s history. His tenure culminated in the successful design, construction, and activation of the $500 million Patient Care Pavilion, a landmark project that dramatically expanded the hospital’s capacity to serve patients and families across the region.
Throughout his career, John has been recognized for his ability to align strategy, operations, and culture, consistently driving quality, access, and patient experience improvements while fostering strong physician partnerships and high-performing teams.
Prior to his civilian career, John served 26 years in the United States Army Medical Service Corps, retiring as a Colonel. A decorated combat veteran, he led healthcare organizations across the United States, the Pacific region, and operational environments worldwide. His final active-duty assignment was as Commander and CEO of the Fort Drum Medical Department Activity, where he directed healthcare delivery for more than 30,000 TRICARE beneficiaries and oversaw the medical readiness of 15,000 Soldiers.
John holds a B.S. in Biology from Cornell University, a Master of Health Administration from the Medical University of South Carolina, and a Master of Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College.
“I am honored to join the extraordinary physicians, clinicians, and staff of New York Gynecology Surgery & Endometriosis” said McMurray. “Together, we will continue advancing our mission of delivering exceptional care, expanding access to specialized women’s health services, and improving the lives of the patients and families we are privileged to serve.”
Please join us in welcoming John, his wife Trisch, a registered nurse, and their children, Lily and Andy, to the NYGSE family. We look forward to the leadership and vision he brings as we enter this exciting next chapter.
